The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast offers children and families a place to explore and learn through hands-on activities, educational programs and cultural experiences that reflect our community’s unique character. The museum is dedicated to providing a state-of-the-art, safe environment where curiosity and self-confidence are fostered year round by caring and qualified personnel.
The Children’s Museum of the Treasure Coast is registered with the United States Green Building Council, and is pursuing LEED certification. The key innovation of the sustainable features will be the use of the (Children’s Museum) building itself as a teaching mechanism, integrating signage explaining “green” features while creating environmental awareness. Tours will also be designed to teach children and their families the merits of sustainable building design, function and technology.
The following are the “Green” elements that will be interpreted throughout the museum.
Minimized site disturbance during construction, along with strict demolition and construction recycling, enables a 75% reduction of waste diverted from the landfill.
White building and roof color- creating a reduction of heat gain
Maximum insulation of the roof and exterior walls
CO2 sensors controlling the AC system and influx of fresh air
Lighting photometric and motion sensors-automated lighting control through occupancy and day lighting.
Insulated glazing enabling a substantial reduction in annual energy use-targeted at 30% reduction.
Low flow plumbing fixtures estimated to provide a 20% reduction in water use.
Mandatory recycling and “green” housekeeping.
Building design accommodates the integration of solar panels and wind power, features that can be implemented with future funding opportunities. For more information contact Robert Cannellos, President & LEED AP, Studio Zero Environmental Solutions 772-341-5617
